Beginner SEO Tips: Knowledge to Train Yourself and Rank #1 on Search Engines
Hey everyone today we're talking about
SEO, search engine optimization for beginners and I'm talking about 10
essential tips they're gonna help drive your website to number one on search
engines. Now before we get started I am packing a
ton of value into this episode make sure you guys watch the entire episode it is
going to help you whether you're just starting an SEO or you've been doing SEO
on your website for a while, take your website up in organic rankings. Alright
let's get right into it with tip number one! Authority… Authority is how much the
search engines trust your website everything I talked about today is going
to have factors that increase the authority of your website and your URL
so that your site can move up in those organic rankings. Each individual URL has
its own authority and I like to call Authority something a little different.
Trustability factor. Each individual URL maintains its own Authority and myself
when I'm trying to explain what Authority is I just like saying it is
the trust ability factor of what search engines think of your site.
Again the
more search engines trust your website to higher you are gonna appear in rankings. Now let's talk about how to boost that authority and get you moving up. Tip
number two have a niche for your website this is something that even I struggled
with for a really long time I wanted to build websites and I want it to have all
of these different service categories and have a whole bunch of different
items however websites that perform to one niche that of content that takes it
all towards one service category tend to rank higher on search engines.
The reason
for that is the context of that website every page on that website is driving
content towards one goal. So for example let's say you are a videographer trying
to increase in your local region if your website has videography services,
photography services, digital marketing services, social media services,
all of these different items it's not gonna rank as well as if you just pick
your one core niche, which is videography. Have all those pages relating back to
you making video content and you will see your search engine optimization and
authority of that domain rise in those specific keywords.
That comes to tip
number three, write contextual content. Recently search
engine algorithms have now updated to focus on context, we're talking exactly
about what your product or services in a very easy to read manner. One of the
examples I like to give for this and you may have seen this in a different video
before is with alt text. Back in the day with SEO a couple years ago we would
have taken a ton of content and packed it behind pictures.
So here's one picture
we would have taken the content from here we would have put it behind the
picture and it would have told search engines what that picture was about; however, having all of that content I'm going to grab it again and move it out
doesn't help you anymore you need to talk about just what that picture is
about.
So this picture is about a forest sunrise, so that's what you would write
relating to your product or service so for example videographer taking shot of
forest sunrise. Basic text let's move that behind now that picture that alt text
has better context it is going to rank better on search engines. Now that's just
an example with alt text however apply that to all the content on your website
which takes us to tip number four. Tip number four is know your keywords for
your niche research them and understand what your customer avatars are going to
be searching for in order to find you. Now there is a whole bunch of tools out
there to help you find keywords that relate to your product or service one of
the ones that we've used is SEM rush.
SEM rush provides you with a lot of SEO
tools it allows you to do an audit of your site it allows you to find keywords
it allows you to do a lot of great things and it's a tool that we recommend.
One of the other tools that are used sometimes that is free is Google Keyword
planner which is part of Google Adwords. Sometimes if I'm looking for a second
opinion or if I'm trying to see what all of the information that's coming in to
me if it makes sense I go to Google Keyword planner in order to look up how
much search traffic there is look up how competitive those keywords are, it helps
you really understand translate that into my SEO strategy.
Tip
number five, we got all those keywords in the website now we got it into our
content on the pages now we need to optimize the internal SEO of our website
I'm talking about the meta descriptions and page titles. Meta descriptions and
page titles are essential for what Google is going to think your site is
about. I want to bring up an example for you guys I'm going to draw one out here
I'm gonna search for Apple, now with Apple you can see right here the page
title of Apple and then underneath it on search results you have them made a
description, now Apple is talking about a lot of the products that they have
they're showing in that meta description what products people are
going to be searching for telling people what that site and search engines what
that site is about.
Now Apple has a ton of authority and they are not worried
about every single aspect of SEO however they have optimized their site and
sometimes it's good to take lessons from what they've done. Now one of the pro
tips I also add into that is whatever your meta description is should appear
in the content of your homepage now you've already gone made all of the
content packed in the keywords but the meta description is the packed keywords
set or text string that relates to your page into your website so find a way to
get that made a description into the content of your site. Same thing with
your page title the closer to the page title the meta description and the
content of your homepage have correlations Google's gonna pull that
information out and then make a judgement about what your site is about
what niche you are covering.
That takes me in to tip number six, have a very easy
to read and easy to use website. We've talked about context we've talked about
packing and keywords easy to read means that it's very structurally easy to read
it looks good and the sentence aren't run-on they have good grammar all of
that factors into how that content reads holding people on your page. Easy to use
goes a little deeper than that easy to use means that you've not created an
Ikea you haven't created an entire maze of where people are going on your
site it's easy for them to find the information they're looking for very
quickly and get value from your website proving your website has trustable
as a subject matter expert in your niche. Alright guys tip number seven. Load
speed. Put a little star on your notes beside this one because loads speed has
a huge impact on SEO and specifically mobile load speed.
Search engines and
specifically Google now want your website to load very quickly to make it
again easy to use for the people looking at your site. In order to do that you
need to minimize the size of your site as well as have very clean code if
you're using one of the DIY website builder such as wix, or Squarespace, or
Shopify, those are great however they don't give you a ton of ability in order
to change the development or change the load speed but here's one tip for you
minimize the size of your photos. Most images on a website only have to be
between 100 and 150 pixels per inch for a high-quality screen viewing image, now
when possible when you export those images at that smaller pixel size you're
able to reduce the size and any image on a website should be if possible between
50 kilobytes and 250 kilobytes something very small very quick to load as soon as
you open up that site it snaps open now a couple of websites where you can test
out your load speed are Pingdom.com and GTmetrics.com.
I've used both of those
you can run a basic query right away they give you the load speed of your
website and it shows you what is running and what's slowing it down, now there's
more advanced tools out there but if you're just getting going and you want
to see what your ranking is use one of those sites and they'll get you on the
road to increasing making your site faster. Tip number 8, Google search
console. Now if you haven't heard about Google search console or Google
Webmaster each search engine has their own webmaster
product being has Bing Webmaster they all have their own search engine product.
What it does by setting it up is it allows you to track some vital factors
that help your website, it also helps your website index so it's very
important to make sure as soon as you get your website up you get it into
Google search console. Now if you're looking for it
just search Google search console online you'll get in once you log in with your
Gmail account you're going to be able to verify your domain it's very easy to
verify your domain if you bought your domain on a site such as GoDaddy when
you're verifying it the one thing that we recommend is that you verify the
entire property that will allow for all levels of your domain to be recognized
as part of that webmaster console.
Once it's set up it's going to give you a ton
of great metrics to look at your impressions in your search engine, your
click-through rate, it's going to give you that data and a deep analytics for
which pages are performing and which keywords are performing organically on
search engines. That brings me to tip number nine, analytics. When you have
Google Webmaster setup when you're able to start tracking some of the keywords
that you're doing well in the click-through rates you're able to then
morph and see what's working on some pages and apply it to the rest of your
site.
Now where do you do that in Google console or in a different SEO monitoring
software it doesn't matter but you're going to use that deep analytics you're
gonna understand what's going on and learn from it. For example recently we
have noticed in our search consoles any web page that has 300 to 500 words on
that page as written content good easy to read written content, performs
significantly better than pages that have under 300 words. So now we can apply that theory we can take that apply it to more pages see if they start to increase
in rankings and if they do we now have something to go based on.
Now that's a
pro tip for you guys write that one down 300 to 500 words per page helps it a lot.
Finally guys tip number 10, backlinks. Now you guys may have heard about backlinks
before but if you haven't a backlink is any link out in the web
universe that's linking back to your website backlinks are created through
things like business directories or articles out in the web universe that
link back to your site. Backlinks are created from things such as articles
social media posts business directories anywhere online that has that URL that
you can click on that comes back to your site now one of the pro tips with
backlinks as you start to create them is create backlinks that are rich in anchor
text that relate to your site. I'm gonna say that again because it's important
rich in anchor texts that relate to your site. So for example earlier I talked
about having a niche we talked about a videographer website so let's say that
you're a videographer in New York City then the anchor text that has the link
that takes people to your site should be videographer in New York City what that
allows the search engines to do is then relate all of that anchor text back to
those keywords and the Meta description and the titles and everything that your
website is about and it's gonna provide more authority.
So you can see how
everything they talked about today went in a full circle.
It went from authority all the way back to authority you are trying to create
more authority for your site move it up in those organic rankings and make a
difference in your business. All right guys that is it for this episode I hope
