Yoast SEO vs RankMath vs All In One SEO | FREE versions comparison 2023
Yoast versus Rank Math versus All in one SEO.
Which of these three free versions do you need on your website? Let's compare them right now. We're
gonna start with the tool that I use very often on my website, which is a redirection tool. And when I
started with Yoast I always had to use an external plugin, because redirection is a premium feature
in Yoast SEO. I always had to install this plugin the Redirection – to my full satisfaction – until
Rank Math came along.
Now Rank Math does another job with this. If you go to the options you have
a redirection option over here, you just enable this one, then you go to settings in here, and now
you have a complete redirection plugin inside of your WordPress website. You can even use an Auto
Post Redirect so when you change the URL of any post to a new one, it will place redirects inside
of the system automatically. You can just add a new redirection, types, its just really works
great within Rank Math. And in all-in-one SEO well you guessed it, it is a premium feature.
What's also important for your website is a 404 monitor. To see if there are broken links in
your website. When someone links to your website from an external source and it's just a bad link,
you can easily and redirect it. in Yoast there is actually not such a feature. And the only thing I
could found about 404 monitor on Yoast is just this blog how you can find them in Google Universal
Analytics.
Rank Math must have noticed this, because they have created a 404 monitor for free inside
of your plugin. Just enable this button over there and go to settings. And in these settings you
can enable the 'Advanced mode' and press save changes. When you have set this up you can go over
here to the 404 monitor, and then when you refresh it, you will see every single 404 that has been
coming to your website. It really works amazing. And when you have fixed the 404 you can just
select them and delete them all, or clear your log – works the same.
Now all in one SEO does have
a 404 monitor but it is behind the redirection manager, which is only available in the pro version.
Another thing that in a SEO plugin is very important, is the possibility to remove the category base
strip in a URL. In Yoast you can easily do this by going to the sections, by going to the options,
and here you can see show the categories prefix in slug. Here you can easily just enable or
disable this inside of Yoast SEO. If you use a lot of categories, and you have different kind
of depths inside of your website, removing this category prefix is then very important to do so,
as you get a more cleaner and nicer URLs which is better for SEO. In Rank Math this is one of the
first features you can see with the options and links – strip the category base – just enable this one
and it is done. Excellent. All in one SEO if you go to 'Search appearance' 'Taxonomies' go to advanced
if you want to remove the category based prefix… we have to buy the pro version… That's really
a shame.
A weird thing I noticed with Yoast is when I hit on this Facebook preview button, if
you actually want to see a preview of how it looks on Facebook, you had to get Yoast SEO premium. And
also with Twitter. But with Rank Math SEO if you just click over here, you can see how it looks when
someone shares it with on Facebook and on Twitter. And there's also another cool feature if you
scroll down you can add an icon overlay to your thumbnail. For example the play icon. So it will
always have this play button on top of it, or a gif icon, like this. So people know actually when they
click on it, they will see some animated pictures. Also when you go to Twitter you can scroll down
and you can actually use the same data from the Facebook tab or uncheck this, and then you can
change your image for especially for Twitter, and different kind of title and description.
Really extensive nice feature from Rank Math in the free version. And with All In One SEO, I go to social
over there, and here you can find the Facebook and the Twitter preview card.
It's all in there and it
works actually really great. I always figured that one page should have one focus keyword. However
sometimes it's useful to fill in multiple keywords. But in Yoast SEO if you want to add more key
phrases, than go over here 'Add related key phrases' and then we need to buy the premium version. In
Rank Math however if I go over here and type in another keyword, hacked or just hack. And press
enter now I have two keywords and you will see now that all these checklists will be applied
to the another keyword and it's completely free. If I want to enter more keyword phrases inside of
all-in-one SEO, I just click on here and also it's a pro feature. If you want to add schema markup
to your posts or pages which is very useful in certain cases, you can go over here to schema and
just go in your page type. To be a web page, item or whatever you want, and also the article type
you can change it to this one. It works great, but if you can see over here, there are no recipes in
here.
Why not? And in Rank Math SEO I just go to the schema markup over here, and I click on the schema
generator, and I can choose all these things from out Rank Math. These are all available in the
free version even the recipe. Hooray! In All in one I can go to schema over there and click on generate
schema. And oh… that's a bummer. It's only available for premium users. The feature I use a lot of times
with my clients is the role manager. With Yoast SEO you can go to a role, a certain individual, click on
the role and you can change it to SEO Editor or SEO Manager. Which could be very useful if you have
a lot of people working on your website.
However there is actually no way to configure what an SEO
Editor and what an SEO Manager can actually do. On Rank Math SEO you just scroll down until you see
role manager over there. It's a complete feature just enable this one, and you go to settings.
But the role manager on Rank Math SEO is pretty extensive. Here you can see that I can change every
single setting per role inside of your website.
Now this is what I call a role manager. With All in One SEO
you go from general settings to 'Access control' and oh… it's only available for licensed
users. With Yoast there actually is no way to see if my website is actually doing great in all kind
of technical SEO stuff. I have never seen a report somewhere which shows me that "Hey your data is
working great, and you should have some technical issues check this out' There's just no way I can
find it. However in Rank Math SEO you can find your SEO analysis for your entire domain. And that
means that they are checking all these things if your basic SEO is okay, if your alt keywords are
okay on the entire website, they will look at a lot of things if everything's okay and what you
can improve on your entire website.
And All in One SEO they do have an SEO audit checklist, but
it's not in the free version. You have to register and then you have to upgrade. If I want to get
some suggestions for internal link building, there is actually no way how to do this within
Yoast SEO the free version. Unlock this feature in Yoast SEO premium. However in Rank Math SEO what
you can actually do is check this box, 'This is pillar content' and then we found a new tab which
says 'Link suggestion'. And now when other posts are in the same category or they are connected with
the title, will show up over there, and we can use this post to create internal links from one to
each other.
Really useful to apply internal link building on our website. With All in one SEO the
link assistant is available but only for license Pro users. In this website you will see that I'm
using Advanced Custom Fields over here to create easy different kind of posts. I'm using
a lot of variables inside of my title and meta description. If I want to use my Advanced Custom
Fields inside of my titles or meta descriptions I just simply can't.
And as you can directly tell
that the key phrase is not an introduction and not in the SEO title, however it is in the title but
it's an advanced custom field. If we want to fix this, we have to download another plugin called ACF
content analysis for Yoast SEO. And these custom Fields will also be analyzed by Yoast SEO. However
you still can't use them as variables. With Rank Math this is just a simple matter of just pulling the
switch over here. If I have ACF working on my website, just hit the switch and everything works.
And here you can just easily add it in your titles and your meta description using these kind of
variables. Works great out of the box, no need for an extra plugin. In All in One SEO you can easily
do this by just adding in the plugin, and then you can add a custom field over there in your page
titles, because it's already integrated in the free version.
If we're talking about schema markup and
you want to have some local SEO markup added to your website, then with Yoast SEO we would need to
buy the premium version, buy local SEO, and it's only 80 Euros a year. Within Rank Math its a different
story, just scroll down with the general settings and just hit the switch on local SEO, go to your
settings and just add it all in.
If you want the organization or person, we can use shortcodes to
also add it in somewhere on our website. You can use the names, the organization logo, phone number
address, about page, contact page… it's all in here completely free. With all in one SEO, you just go
over here in the menu to a local SEO, and then it's only available for pro users. If I want to fully
integrate WooCommerce with my website – which is very important. There are a couple of SEO tweaks
you need to do to your WooCommerce website. To make it work perfectly together with Yoast we have
to buy the Yoast WooCommerce SEO plugin for €79. With Rank Math again you scroll all the way
down and here you just have a WooCommerce feature you can just enable this one and then it works
out of the box completely free, you can optimize all your products make sure they get found within
Google. Another very important thing with Rank Math, I completely advise you to do so – is to remove the
prefix like /shop/ or /product/ from your webshop.
But not on existing websites, on new websites that
would be great especially when you have a lot of products and they're inside their category,
then you just have your URL name, category name, and then the name of the products. Without the
prefixes /shop/ or /products/. Those are completely unnecessary if we use a lot of categories and
even tags. And with All in one SEO, if I now have over here my WooCommerce product, you can see that
we have a snippet we could just add in product titles, meta descriptions, which all comes out of
the box with All in One SEO. And the last thing I wanted to point out for all your Divi users
like me, if you're trying to use one of these SEO plugins there's actually a very big difference. On
this website I'm using Divi but I'm using Yoast and there's actually no way to configure Yoast
from the Visual Builder. I have to go in here and inside of this page I can actually see all my
titles and meta description and all my SEO stuff. In Rank Math that's completely different, I can go
over here and 'hey there's a new icon from Rank Math'.
I can click on it and I can change everything
from inside my visual Builder within Divi. So Rank Math really integrates well with Divi
without errors or without problems, excellent. And also All in One SEO – if you go over here
you have a feature so that it is kinda integrated. Why do I say kinda? Well this actually works
the way it should be, because when I go to pages or posts or products, this is what you see in the
description. All the shortcodes generated by Divi 4. So it feels like the integration has been done
but not as good as a Rank Math. Before we switch to Rank Math, go to wpressdoctor.com/rankmath
and press enter. Now you can go on the top right side to press download, and now your free
version of Rank Mathwill be downloaded to your PC.
