search engine optimization or SEO for short now it's no secret that I believe
SEO is an integral part of a small businesses marketing strategy and it
holds a special place in my heart seeing as this one strategy alone helped me
grow my first six-figure agency but knowing SEO is important and knowing how
to actually go out there and implement and execute on it or two completely
different things which is why in this video I'm going to
be breaking down the exact six step strategy we use inside the agency so you
can follow these steps and consistently rank your website or your clients
websites on the first page of Google now full disclosure this video is sponsored
by sa ranking which is the tool we use inside the agency and I'm going to be
referencing it multiple times throughout the video as it plays a key part of our
overall SEO strategy it's a great tool it's used by over 300,000 people and has
35 different SEO tools embedded in it so it's perfect whether you're a brand new
beginner and just getting started with SEO or if you run multiple client
accounts in an SEO agency just like ours plus if you're interested in trying out
the software I'll make sure to include a link in the descriptions below which
will give you access to a free trial so you can try it out for yourself alright
now let's get to it when it comes to creating an effective SEO strategy you
really need to break it down into six different steps this is because well
some things are definitely more important than others there's no one
single aspect when it comes to SEO that automatically unlocks that first page or
a number-one ranking position rather it's the strategic combination of the
series of steps that really gets you there so the first step in our six steps
strategic SEO sequence which kind of a mouthful well the first step
is keyword research it's here that you really want to start diving into the
keywords that you want your website to rank for it's really important to do
some really detailed research here because if you try to rank for all sorts
of different words that nobody's using and nobody's searching for well your SEO
efforts are going to be totally useless the flip side of that of course is if
you try to rank for the most competitive keywords possible well the odds of you
ranking for them right off the bat are also slim to none
so you've got to find a balance of keywords that you can actually rank for
as well as ones that people are actually searching for this is why one of the
first places that I go when I'm looking for brand new keywords is se rankings
keyword suggestion tool all right so let's use a fictitious example here and
say that we've got a coffee shop in Los Angeles that we want to start ranking
higher for well the first thing I do is head over to the keyword suggestions
tool and start finding out what kind of keywords I should be trying to rank for
in this case what I want to do is probably type in something like coffee
shops and see what happens when I hit the search all right and as
you can see what's happening here is I'm getting just a ton of different data
that I can use to start researching into and seeing which one is going to be most
beneficial to me with my la coffee shop so for example I can see that we've got
some similar keywords including coffee shops near me coffee shop coffee shops
donut shop coffee starting a coffee shop start a coffee shop some of these are
going to be relevant such as coffee shops near me and coffee shops and
others are going to be completely irrelevant like starting a coffee shop
and start a coffee shop which would be great if I was planning on teaching
people how to start one but because I'm trying to generate more traffic for my
coffee shop this one's not really gonna pan out
now the next tab that I really like to dig into is the longtail keywords
because as we just discussed it's one thing to try to rank for words that
people are actually using but it's another entirely if we're trying to rank
for words that people are using that are just already hyper saturated and
incredibly competitive so as we scroll down the longtail keywords we can see
that because I didn't put coffee shops in Los Angeles it's gonna give us all
sorts of different ideas but we can use this later
for example we'd want to use coffee shops in Los Angeles Los Angeles coffee
shop urban coffee shop coffee shop Los Angeles again probably maybe coffee shop
Los Angeles California and so on so the first thing I want to do is head over to
google and type in one of the keywords that I found that I think is most
relevant in this case we're gonna use coffee
shops Los Angeles and we're gonna see what pops up now we've got a good
example right here in the Google Maps so we'll click over there and pull up their
website so that we can start diving into what keywords they're using in order to
get these rankings once I have their URL I head back over to sa ranking and I
plug the URL into the competitor tracking which is going to give me all
sorts of different details in this case this is the information that I get back
I can see their organic keywords I can see traffic costs I can see their
estimated traffic and I can see the keywords that they're ranking for in
this case teas teas tea mug alfred coffee
Alfred tea which obviously we're not going to necessarily try to rank for
because this is their keyword and brand name but all of these other ones are
going to be just as relevant for us in order to put on our websites and start
creating strategic content around alright now that we've got a decent
foundation of keywords that we want to be ranking for the next step is to move
on to step 2 which is on site optimization now the first part of
proper on site optimization is to take advantage of many of the tools that
Google gives you including Google Analytics and the Google search console
which is gonna give you a ton of data on your website where people are going how
they're getting there what pages they're visiting how long they're spending on
your site and so on also if your business happens to be local well you
want to make sure that you're registering for a Google Maps location
which is going to give you even more opportunities to rank on that first page
from there it's kind of techie stuff like a robot's file an XML sitemap an
SSL certificate if you can and make sure your site's secure and making sure that
the URLs you use have nice concise and accurate names rather than weird funny
long or completely irrelevant URLs that are going to do any good things for your
SEO rankings once that's done it's a combination of improving and fixing any
broken links improving page load speed so it loads faster when someone visits
you and a few more other advanced strategies to make sure your website's
running in tip-top shape this is why I'm such a big fan of running frequent
website audits with se ranking as it evaluates all key parameters of website
health parameters per page meta tags headings image optimization link
analysis usability and so on not only that but I can also download or send a
PDF report with all the necessary data to my team or directly to my clients if
they're in to seeing that kind of technical and
analysis now this part shouldn't take us too long but it is incredibly important
you see ever since 2015 when Google really came out and said that mobile
friendly and mobile optimized websites are getting priority well it's become
even more important to make sure that your website is mobile optimized this
means that the user experience is designed or at least accommodates a
mobile device as well or preferably better than it would on a desktop
especially as more and more people are consuming content from their mobile
devices all right so once that part's done it's time to move on to step four
which is to develop a content strategy now fortunately because you've done your
keyword research because you've done your competitor analysis and you know
what keywords you want to rank for and what pages of your competitors are
ranking well you're gonna have the hierarchy and kind of a framework for a
really solid content strategy that you can go out there and start building on
once you've decided on what kind of content you're gonna want to build on
your website you really want to focus on ensuring that it's formatted correctly
with proper titles proper headings and proper keywords sprinkled throughout the
body copy as a bit of a bonus tip if you can add a blog to your website that's
even better because it'll give you an excuse to continually update new and
fresh and relevant content ensuring that you're always providing new information
to the search engines alright and that leads us nicely to step 5 off-site
optimization you see now that you've got your website in tip-top shape it's time
to move offsite and ensure that the links coming into your website are
providing the right and relevant quality and quantity that you need to boost your
rankings you see a key factor when it comes to improving your search engine
rankings as you've probably already heard is not only the quantity but more
importantly now the quality of the links being directed to your website this is
easily one of the most important factors because what it is is its external
validation that your website is worthy and relevant and valuable and deserves
one of those coveted top positions this is also where I'm such a big fan of se
rankings backlink checker as all I need to do is put in any website URL at all
and it'll generate a report showing me all of the links that it has including
the domain Trust which means basically how valuable that link is as well as
where that link came from so I can go out there and decide if I want to try to
acquire this link to point at my site which can only help to boost my rankings
as well you see this part is huge because it eliminates the guesswork of
trying to sort of just figure out what links are actually pointing to your
competitors so you can generate the same ones and basically tells you exactly
what you need to do so you've got a proven roadmap and a blueprint to follow
to go out there and get the exact same kind of links now one important thing
that I really have to mention here when it comes to link building for your
website is that quality is significantly more important than quantity yes you do
need a sufficient number of Link's pointed at your site but they've got to
be from really secure and trustworthy sources otherwise you're well on your
way to tanking your rank oh I like the sound of that which could potentially
wipe your site right off the search engines so stay safe out there all right
and the sixth step when it comes to developing a solid SEO strategy is to
supplement it with a sufficient social media strategy as well you see aside
from all the obvious reasons that you'd want a social media strategy like
increasing brand awareness and driving more traffic well by deploying this as
part of your SEO strategy it's only going to further help increase your
rankings the reason this is so effective is because by using social media to
essentially increase traffic and increase engagement and increase the way
that people are interacting and engaging with your website well all of these
things are indicators to the search engines that your website is relevant
and valuable and worth engaging with which will only help to move you further
up the search rankings the key with an effective social media content strategy
is to make sure that your content is relevant and valuable and share-worthy
because at the end of the day it's the engagement metrics and the traffic that
gets driven back to your site that's really going to help move the needle all
